Jade is spellbound by the new student. Pen is quiet, but she is determined to learn more about him. When her terrifying past comes back to haunt her, Pen reveals there is much more to him than she could have ever imagined.

With his soul on the line, Pen cannot protect Jade if his feelings keep getting in the way. But with Jade’s soul on the line, he must protect her from unearthly forces who want her blood. Will the truth redeem them, or tear them apart?

This was a good book and it has great potential. It had some errors but for a first in a series it was a good lead up for the rest of the series. There were some struggles with character and relationship build up but, the characters had depth and substance. They were realistic, relatable, and I liked the way they interacted with one another. I also liked the plot, although it needed a little help with development. While this book wasn't perfect (not many are) with some tweaking it could make for a fantastic series.
